‘Ain’t the Way I Work’ is the second of four original compositions handpicked for individual release prior to the unveiling of Nick’s upcoming album, ‘Last one get the lights’ - an eleven-track offering recorded and produced in lockdown by ‘The Nick Gladdish Band’.
Originally written in 2000 and shelved until 2020, Nick describes this composition as, “A bittersweet tale about squabbling flat-mates and standing one’s ground. All set against a backdrop of immature attention seeking.” The upbeat tempo and live band instrumentation audibly represent the tension and release of such challenging relationships.
Although ’Ain’t the Way I Work’, as well as all of Nick’s music, began life as his own composition, a significant factor in the song's evolution was the choice of personnel joining him in the studio.
Long-term friend and musical partner Tim Higgins lent his skills on lead guitar. Adam Cornell was responsible for holding down the bass. Backing vocals were provided by Shannon Pearl Powell and John Timney contributed all things percussive, as well as his services as a sound engineer and producer.
The album was recorded at Traxx Studio in North Shields, the process filmed by Torn Apart TV and bespoke artwork provided by Kirstin Designs.
